help different between x-rayand gamarray??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gamma ray has higher freq. than x-ray. x-ray is produced as a result of change in electron state due to either absorption/release of photons . gamma ray is produced in radioactivity or nuclear reactions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.Gamma rays cause more harm to human body than the X- rays. 2.Gamma rays have shorter wavelengths than the X-rays. 3.X rays are emitted by the electrons outside the nucleus, and gamma rays are emitted by the excited nucleus itself. 4.X rays are used in hospitals for taking X-rays but gamma rays are not.

Good Answer, but point 4 is not correct. Gamma ray Imaging is used in nuclear medicine, also in astronomical observations. For ex - In nuclear medicine the approach is to inject a patient with a radioactive isotopethat emits gamma-rays as it decays and images are produced from the emissions collected by gamma-ray detectors. Images of this sort arre used to locate sites of b one pathology, such as infections or tumors. Another modality of nuclear imaging is called PET (positron emission tomography).

Gamma rays are not frequently used as X-rays..Soo only I told like that bro! :) And both are used for astronomical observation!
