Calculating electric field using Gauss' Law: A 10g piece of styrofoam w/-.7 microC is suspended above a rectangular sheet of plastic w/uniform charge density. What is the charge per unit of the sheet? I am confused as to why we need the force of the electric field. I am using E = (surface density) / 2(8.85X10^-12), but my answer is wrong. Cramster shows I should also be using F = QE and W=mg. How is that deduced from the problem?
