In constructing a cylindrical can of given volume, nothing is wasted in making the side of the can. but the top and the bottom are cut from square streets and the remander are wasted. find the ratio of h and r so that the material is a minimum.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is for calculus class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume you mean that the waste as a percentage if minimum.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... is minimum.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm, like a ratio h/r=k, k being the ratio

OpenStudy (y2o2):

what is h and what is r ?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

h-height r-radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that's the question, then the answer is h=0 and r doesn't matter, so I doubt that you have formulated the question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no it's a properly formulated question by my teacher.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was going to pursue this, but if we're going to allow nonsense because your teacher said it was OK, then we're not going to solve this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol can you pursue this, i need help :S
