In finding the derivative of a^x, if your next step is to do d/dx (e ^ x ln a), why is the product rule not used in the step following that on d/dx (x ln a)?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

because lna is a constant

why is it a constant? I can see that if its a constant, you'll just pull it out an dx/dx is just 1.
