AGAIN I CAN'T DO THIS STUPID THING PLEASEEEE HELP!! A 27inch digitl tv screen as an aspect ratio of 16:9 . Use proportions and the pythagorean theorem (a2+b2=c2) to calculate the lengths and widths of the screens in inches.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

27 inches refers to the diagonal of the screen --> a^2 + b^2 = 27^2 where a is length, b is width the ratio of a to b is given as 16 to 9 a/b = 16/9 a = (16/9)b substitute this in for a in pythagorean thm formula above --> (16/9)^2b^2 + b^2 = 27^2 combine terms --> (337/81)b^2 = 729 --> b^2 = 175.22 --> b = 13.24 multiply by 16/9 to get a --> a = 23.53

wow thankyou so much, i get it now!! and I checked the answer and it's 23.5 by 13.2 but how exactly do you get the 13.2 cause you only got the 23.5

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well it looks like they rounded to 1 decimal place 13.24 rounds down to 13.2

ohh, i see okay! well thankyou so much you helped me so much :)
