I wish there was a "Status" feature :( then I wouldn't have to "update status" in "wrong sections" every time :(

Well there's a straightforward enough solution to that: don't post status updates. The left pane is for questions, not for status updates. Every time you do that, you risk being suspended.

That said, we'll consider this feature.

Very much apt ! Status option is very common in social networking sites these days, and it should be a part of the platform of this site as well, since it gives us the opportunity of flaunting how much we are engrossed in our studies( :p ). Anyways such minimal self-enforcing requirements should not claim our time , and rather should be fulfilled voluntarily.
