The resistence is results from a series of randomly produced mutations, but it can also be induced artificially by the application of a selective pressure in a population. Once the genetic info is generated, bacteria can transfer the info through a horizontal transference (between individuals) by plasmids exchange. If a bacterium carries several resistance genes it is called multiresistant or superbacteria
