OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would cause the pH of human blood to go outside the normal range of ~7.35-7.45?

OpenStudy (blues):

Different things can change blood pH either way. Decreases in pH are called acidosis and are caused by various things like poisoning (especially iron poisoning) and lack of oxygen. Increases are called alkalosis and some common causes include hyperventilation and electrolyte disturbances after prolonged vomiting and gastrointestinal upset.
