x^2- 6x=7x + 48

(x+3)(x-16) = 0 then x = -3 and x = 16

1st - minus both sides by 7x we have: x^2 - 6x - 7x = 7x - 7x + 48 -> x^2 - 13x = 0 + 48 2nd - minus both sides by 48 we have: x^2 - 13x - 48 = 48 - 48 -> x^2 - 13x - 48 = 0 now we can guess that 16*3 = 48 and 3 - 16 = -13 so we group them together as: (x+3)(x-16) = 0 to make sure, you can multiplay them together: x*x + x*(-16) + 3*x + 3*(-16) = x^2 -16x + 3x - 48 = x^2 - 13x - 48 (as we expect the simplified shoul be) so we have (x+3)(x-16)=0 therefore, x=-3 and x=16 plug back in (-3+3)(-3-16)=0 because -3+3 =0 and everything times 0 = 0 the same with x = 16
