Regular pentagon A B C D E is similar to M N O P Q . If line segment A B equals 8 centimeters and line segment O P equals 4 centimeters, what is the scale factor between A B C D E and M N O P Q ? Answer zero point five 2 4 not enough information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what is special about a "Regular" pentagon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is nothing special its just has 5 sides that are congruent i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, all the sides are the same. So we have on pentagon with all sides being 4, and another with all sides being 8. Do you know the definition of a scale factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is a formula used for a problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha, right, but not exactly what I meant. The scale factor is the ratio between the lengths of the sides of similar objects. Stated another way, it's what you have to multiply the length of the sides by to make the other object.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In this case, we have sides of 4 and sides of 8. 8/4 = 2. Or, 4*2=8. Eitherway you want to look at it. Your scale factor (from the small to the large) is 2.

k thankx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops, I misread the question. You are going from the large to the small. So the scale factor is one half ( or 0.5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooo ok thanx again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take care

thx u 2
