look to x=-8; then look up and see where the curve hits the closest

then look to the right and see how high it is

X-axis is the horizontal axis...find x at -8...go straight up or straight down and find the red line...then look to the right or left and see how high or how low it is.

i dont think -2 is quite the right direction but it is a fairly small picture in my laptop

if the curve is above the x-axis it should be positive..if it's below the x-axis y is negative
