What are the x– and y–intercepts of the quadratic equation y = (x – 1)2 – 16? Identify the x–intercepts by graphing the quadratic equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*y=(x-1)^2-16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x-intercepts are where the parabola crosses the x-axis. The y intercept is where the parabola crosses the the y-axis. So just rearrange your equation using the foil method. \[y=(x-1)(x-1)-16\]\[y=x ^{2}-x-x+1-16\]\[y=x ^{2}-2x-15\] Enter that into your graphing calculator, or enter the equation on the input line of geogebra. http://www.geogebra.org/cms/
