Which of the following is NOT true about the Korean War? A. Japan had control of Korea prior to World War II. B.The war started when North Korea invaded South Korea. C.The Soviet Union attempted to establish a democratic government in North Korea. D. China became involved in the war after UN forces advanced into North Korea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm leaning towards C. as not being true. North Korea staunchly supported Communism at the time and invaded the democratic South Korea in an attempt to unify the peninsula (meaning that B. is actually true). A is also true, as Japan controlled all of Korea (before it was split) before WW2. D is also true. China did throw armed forces into the conflict to support North Korea in the Korean War.

OpenStudy (ali***):

The Soviets provided support to North Korea. North Korea claimed sovereignty of the entire Korean peninsula. The war was at a stalemate by the end of 1951. The UN supported a police action. The peace treaty was signed in 1953.
