Is this a function? x^3+y^2-4x=1?? Please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it is an equation, a function is for example, f(x) = 2x , we put in a number x and get out another number f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an equation, like yours, is telling us that the value of the RHS = value of LHS and is only true for certain values of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eg, f(x) = x + 1 is a function but\[x + 1 = 5\] isn't

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of a function like a machine which takes in one number and spits out another.

thanks dude
