OpenStudy (asapbleh):

When a compound changes states from liquid to gas, has a chemical reaction occured, or are the molecules which make up the compound still the same?

OpenStudy (blues):

No chemical reaction has occurred. Compounds can exist in different phases depending on how much energy there is in the system: solids, liquids, gasses and plasma. Transitions between the phases do not involve chemical reactions - they involve physical processes like melting, freezing, boiling, condensing, etc.
