If the scale of a map is (see picture below), then what is 13.4 cm on the scale?

You would either on to know the physical length of the scale, or measure it with a ruler. However, if we let the physical length of 1000 miles equal one inch, we can create a group of ratios. In this case, we would have (1000miles/1 inch) (1inch/2.54 cm)=393.7 miles/cm So for 13.4 cm we would have: (393.7 miles/cm )(13.4 cm)= 5,275.6 miles
