Which of the following did not contribute to the birth of the fear of communism in the U.S. after World War II? A. Detonating of the H-Bomb by the Soviets B. The discovery of spies in the U.S. C. The spread of communism in the United States D. The Un-American Activities Committee activation
This is a tricky one. I'd like to say C. did not contribute to the fear of communism. The detonation of their own H-Bomb made a lot of people worried about the Soviets and what they might do. Remember, they were the flag bearers of Communism and relations rapidly cooled between the US and the USSR after WW2 when we were once allies. Even though there were spies found in the US and the Un-American Activities Committee went on a witch hunt for communist sympathizers, communism never really had a chance here. But the fear that it MIGHT was a factor.
