12. A bookcase is to have four shelves, including the top. The height of the bookcase is to be 2 feet more than the width and only 20 feet of lumber is available. Use an equation to determine the width and height of the bookcase.

|dw:1332966948641:dw| now let the width be x feet. so length equals x+2 feet. so now width-wise, you need 4 slabs. so length required in widths is 4x. you need 2 'lengths' as well. so, that equals 2(x+2) now, this should add upto 20 feet, as our lumber is limited. so, 4x+2(x+2)=20 solve to find 'x' and enjoy!!!
