What did a Chinese Emperor "lose" right before he was overthrown?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chinese Emperors ruled because of the "mandate of heaven." Basically that just meant that they ruled because they thought that God had chosen them to be the ruler. So, then before they were overthrown, they would lose the God-given right to rule (the Mandate of Heaven)

A chinese emporer, if he thought he was going to be overthrown he would call upon his most trusted servent who would help him, well, chop his head off.
