factor completley x2-x-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-3)(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hard to explain, ummm im not a teacher sooo ill give it my best shot since you see a x2 , that means x*x then you have to find 2 numbers that when mutiplyied make -6, but when added make -1(this is the -x) so if its like x2+9x+20 its (x+4)(x+5); b/c when multiplied the 5 and 4 make 20 , and when added the5 and 4 make 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that like 20 has a lot of factors, like (10 and 2) (5 and 4) and (20 and 1), but only one of the combinations will when added or subtracted from each other will make 9 for the middle part

ok so ill i have to do is multiply 2 numbers that will end up to be the number that sbeing solved for
