The spiral shape of the Milky Way Galaxy CANNOT be seen from Earth because ____.
firstly a very very good question!! answer is - Because quite simply, we are within it. If we were out side of our Galaxy, then we could "see" the spiral shape. But don't expect to see it for a longgggg time. It's over 25,000 light years to the edge and a lot further if you want to see it, in it's entirety. All images are artists impressions.
Rohan is right, because we are within it, we cannot detect the spiral shape of the galaxy. It is just like why we cannot detect the movement of the earth(because we are on it).

dude...because the size our reach or vision is only upto sun and even we are not ble to recognize nine planets perfectly with naked eyes... I mean to say .... our limit is very small and U CAN NEVER OUT OF MILKYWAY TO VIEW THE GALAXY bcz there are thousands of other STARS, like sun,,, planets. the shape of our galaxy what we conclude...(SPIRAL) is just a mathematical calculation by estimating the explosions in universe.. WE CAN NOT GO OUTSIDE THIS GALAXY TO TAKE ITS PIC :-D
actually, we expect to have something we've made escape our solar system soon--Voyager I (and later Voyager II) hit the outermost edge of what we define as the solar system. We can measure the movement of the earth quite easily with the hundreds of satellites that collect information on a staggering scale. And, although Voyager II is travelling in the direction we believe to be the shortest way out of our Galaxy--the likelihood that it will reach out of it (and we will receive any data about it) within our lifetimes is rather slim. http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/news/new_region.html
