factor completlely x2-x-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to find 2 numbers that multiply to get the last number, but add to get the middle. It's trial an error basically. So you find that -3x2 = -6, but when you add them you get -1. Then you just set it up with (x+_)(x+_) = 0 Then solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know that at least one must be negative as you have a negative product...-6. you also know that they must have a difference of -1 as you have -x Work through the factors of 6 which would satisfy these requirements (there aren't that many ;) )

cool thanks guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the factor is (x-3)(x+2)
