On what basis, and why are some questions closed?
Closed by the asker, if they are satisfied by the answer, or by the Mods, if they think suitable.
can you respond to closed questions?
They should have created a way to link questions to the appropriate group. In this case, the appropriate group would be feedback.
Yea I would recommend this for feedback group. Basically, you can only have one question open at a time. While that question is open, you can't ask another. All closing does is remove it from the default feed ("Open") and move it to the "Closed" feed. You can switch these by hitting the filters right above the list on the left side. The idea is that it is easier for helpers to find people who need help without duplicate questions cluttering up the feed.
because chuck norris said so
They can be closed by the poster or by a mod, if necessary. Closed questions can still be replied to and all, but just aren't visible by default. Also, in order to help out users who can only have one question open at a time, we have added "bump" which bumps the question to the top of the list to try and get more eyes on it.
The focus here is in two parts: 1) Keep the asker focused on their question (How will they learn if they are not there to engage and ask questions of the answerer) 2) Allow each user to get more visibility for their questions by reducing the amount of questions at a time as well as providing the 'Bump' feature to draw more eyes to it. @Dockworker - You definitely can respond to 'Closed' questions - we wanted to keep this because it's especially important in difficult questions with multiple solutions. @mentions will also still notify the asker. @Hero - Agreed, and we're looking into ways to add that functionality in an appropriate way. @fleauworld - Who are we to say no to Chuck Norris?
