OpenStudy (anonymous):

According to the law of conservation of energy, the total amount of energy in the universe does not change, but remains constant. True False

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is the universe a closed or open system?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yeah.. the universe is a closed system... i mean what's outside of the universe?? zilch... null nothing!! so. yeah its TRUE!!!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i was watching pbs awhile back about how we live in one of many possible universes .... so that in order for our universe to be statistically possible it had to be one of many. i dunno bout that :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

found it: http://video.pbs.org/video/2168433605/

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

well again, they are just theories right? and the universe here in this context i believe caters whatever, everything and anything that exists... even those gazillion universes. thanks for the link, i ll definitely watch it! :)

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

@Vee1993 yeah total amount of energy remains constant.. however the energy may get converted to mass and vice versa.. according to the famous relation E=mc2..

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Oh yes, @ujjwal , thanks for reminding that. It's one of the keys of the law, that the "mass-energy equivalence" must be held in consideration too.
