In a battery there are two distinct regions of the cell, the cathode and the anode. What process occurs at each region?

OpenStudy (callisto):

No matter a cell is discharging or recharging, Reduction takes place at cathode and oxidation takes place at anode. For memorizing it easier, you can remember 'red cat' and 'an ox', where red = reduction and cat = cathode, an= anode and ox = oxidation. Hope it helps.
