A toy company manufactures arcade games. They are marketing a new pinball machine to children. It is similar in size to the adult version of the same game. Both the adult and child models are shown below. If the perimeter of the adult pinball machine is 177 inches, what is the length of G,A,?

OpenStudy (savvy):

do we need to find G'A'..???

OpenStudy (swag):

yes

OpenStudy (savvy):

12inches

OpenStudy (phi):

First, similar means you can make a ratio between the two figure's sides: \[ \frac{E'M'}{EM}= \frac{G'A'}{GA} \] you know EM= 35 and E'M'= 14 so we can use those numbers to get \[ \frac{14}{35}= \frac{G'A'}{GA} \] Now if we know GA, we could solve for G'A' (multiply both sides by GA) To find GA, we use perimeter of the adult pinball machine is 177 That means the sum of the sides= 177 GA+56+56+35= 177 So we can find GA and use it in the ratio to find G'A'

OpenStudy (swag):

so the awnser is 177?

OpenStudy (savvy):

no it's 12inches... phi said that just take the ratio of the sides and hence find G'A'

OpenStudy (swag):

ok
