at http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/DE/Separable.aspx in 1st example how do we conclude that the interval of validity is -(28/3)^1/2 < x < (28/3)^1/2 , if I am not wrong is it because it is the only interval that contains x=1 and the other two we find in this example don't have x=1 in them?

yes, you are exactly right out of the three intervals, only that one contains x=1
