on a graph paper draw a dotted graph of y = -x and then draw a dotted graph of y = x. then using the two dotted lines as a bounds for the cos(x). so you have a really large wave coming from the left and shrinks as it gets toward the origin. then it passes through the origin and grows very large as it goes to the right.
