Diana has made a foam ramp for her pet dog (as shown in diagram). What is the volume of foam, in cubic inches, required to make the ramp?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (callisto):

volume = uniform cross section area x height = [(1/2) x 18 x24] x 12 = 216 x 12 = can you work out the answer yourself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you ^^

OpenStudy (callisto):

welcome. do you understand it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so. But I used the formula v = 1/3 base times height, and it gave me a completely different answer from yours...

OpenStudy (callisto):

1/3 is used for 'pyramid'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it not a pyramid?

OpenStudy (callisto):

well, your question show a prism with uniform cross section area. So the formula used is base area times height, where the base area should be the cross section area

OpenStudy (callisto):

|dw:1333204296527:dw| (a) is a prism and (b) is a pyramid

OpenStudy (callisto):

For a , you can find uniform cross section area, but you cannot find that in (b) |dw:1333204450221:dw|
