Why is the body moving if every action has equal and opposite reaction?I mean don't the forces cancel each other out?
forces dont cancel each other out unless they are indeed equal and in opposite directions. but since we live in a higher dimensional plane greater than R^1; things tend to get pushed about. in my opinion
Yes but if you push something that something will push you back with the same equal force right?
yes, until the forces involved reach a breaking point of one of the object such that the energy is imparted to it and it moves
But there is equal forces on both. Why would one reach a breaking point and not the other?
|dw:1333217088273:dw| these forces are in opposing directions; but are clearly not equal
Every action has an "EQUAL" and opposite reaction
when one force reaches a threshold and can no longer push back; it receives the resulting forces and moves
the reaction, is to move ....
But as long as there is a force there will be an equal opposing force
i think you are mis reading the intent of it
How so?Please explain
ive tried to explain.
Im asking what is the fault in my questioning that
we are either talking about 2 different instances, or one of us is misunderstaing the other
can you provide an example of what it is you are asking?
Now if you take a Jet engine, It works on the fact that you are pushing force out of the back of the engine, so according to Newtons third law, there is a force pushing fowards. If this force is equal and opposite of that coming out of the back of the engine, shouldn't you just stay stationary?
these forces are not equal in relation to the plane itself; the plane is being acted upon by these forces and when it reaches its threshold it moves in the direction of the greater force in order to expend it acquired energy in a useful manner

Ok you apply 100 newton on a ball so now the ball applies 100 newton back on you.Why is it that it is only the ball that is moving?
the ball stays still in its frame of reference and you move ....
Both the ball and myself are in the same frame of reference
then you are the ball apparently
Didn't get you
can the ball exert an equal and opposite force without moving? or does it have to expend its aquired energy to accomodate and equalize the reactions?
spose you exert 100N on mount everest, what moves, you are the mountain?
There you get 100 newton on yourself applied on you by the mountain hence the pain you feel. But the mountain doesn't move because F=ma.Here m is too high for 100n force to give any valid accaleration
the reaction doesnt imply no motion is what im getting at. it implies that the resulting movements are determined BY the forces involved
But what Im saying is the reaction must invoke some motion because there is a resultant force on you!
things can have forces acting upon them and exhibit no motion (ideally) when they are in a state of equilibrium.
What Im saying is why are you in equilibrium if the ball is exerting a 100 n force on you?
forces of collision are a different can of worms :)
if you and the ball can exert the same amount of force in the opposite direction; then you are at an impass; if there is movement to be had it is in imparting energy from one object to the other ...
Hey!!!!!!!!I think I got it!the "action" and "reaction" forces in Newton's 3rd law always act on different bodies. Only if two equal and opposite forces act on the same body would they cancel.
yeah after a long discussion which seemed pointless to me ( i read the whole conversation now).. u finally got the point.. the two forces always act on different bodies..
Yeah now that I read it it looks the same to me
wt was that all..?? plane , threshold. imparting energy?? LOL... the answer was so simple n was thought in the most complex way possible.. can't stop laughing..
That's why I was confused.Well anyway I understand now :D
thank god u did..
:)
without a correct vocabulary for physics, i tend to have to try my best and see what happens
@amistre64 buddy i appreciate that you kept trying to help him ... :)
