What is the difference between apparatus and materials?

The apparatus is a combination of materials. The apparatus is a collection of items like the attached picture. Materials are the individual things in that apparatus. One single beaker is a material while all the items combined to serve one purpose is the apparatus. Materials could also refer to the substances your putting in the apparatus.
