It can't be "A", since the support that Germany and Japan were supplying each other with didn't amount to much.
It can't be "D" because by the time America got involved, France had been crushed by Germany already.
It isn't likely to be "C" since the Italians were Germany's ally for much of the war. Even though the allies did eventually invade Italy, the mounainous landscape made for excellent defensive fighting in Germany's favor. This effort helped the allies to some extent by spreading Axis forces around to much terrain.
