One side of a kite is 5 cm less than 2 times the length of another. If the perimeter is 14 cm, find the length of each side of the kite. A. 4 cm, 3 cm B. 4.2 cm, 3.4 cm C. 6.3 cm, 7.7 cm D. 5 cm, 5 cm
x = 2x -5 x = 5 --> 2 sides of length 5 5 + 5 + y + y = 14 10 + 2y = 14 2y = 4 y = 2 ----> 2 sides of length 2
I think the intended correct answer is this --> A) 4 cm, 3 cm and here's why....
A kite has 2 pairs of congruent adjacent sides. I read the problem to mean that the first pair of sides has length x and 2x -5, set them equal and solved for x. Well, evidently one of the two sets of congruent sides has length x and the other set has length 2x -5. So, x + x + 2x -5 + 2x -5 = 14 6x = 24 x = 4 ---> 2x - 5 = 2(4) -5 = 8 - 5 = 3 ---->
