how to find the kernel of a matrix

OpenStudy (amistre64):

nulspace

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Ax=0 is the kernel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so if this is matrix: 1 2 -3 -1 -2 3 4 4 4

OpenStudy (amistre64):

row reduce it, what do we get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 0 5 0 1 -4 0 0 0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you see the row that has no pivot point? thats your nulspace; just change signs on it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

forgot the 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the row is always equal to itself .... kernel = [-5,4,1]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i hope that makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much.
