While there are two real solutions, the two solutions are not unique. x = -1/2 is a double root and appears as a point of tangency of the graph to the x-axis. I tend to think of a double root as two roots. Whoever writes these multiple choice questions I have seen here tends to think of a double root as a single root or one root. That said, I would most likely answer the question as A) One solution.---> ANS all the time knowing that -1/2 and -1/2 are two nondistinct solutions.
