Petroleum Engineering is one of the fastest growing engineering fields here in the United States. I'm not sure about the situation in your country (India I assume). You are correct. The field is limited. You'll be most likely taking a job with an oil company doing Petroleum Engineering work. However, keep in mind that the demand for oil is every increasing and the supply is ever decreasing. There are new and exciting challenges being faced by the world as we search for new sources of oil. Petroleum engineers will be tasked with solving these challenges and problems. Pursuit your passion. The payoff will be greater in my opinion (if not monetary).
