the smallest of f(x)= 1/(x(x+1) on [-.5,0) find the required extremum or explain why it does not exist. For some reason I remember this one not existing...

If you graph your function, you see that there is no smallest value of f(x). Near 1, it diverges to +Infinity from one side and to -Infinity on the other side.
