The comet hale-bopp has a period of 2400 years. What is the mean distance from the sun?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

What are Kepler's laws? That's what you need for this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I know that. I'm guessing I would also need the mass of the sun, the equaion related two masses m1 and m2 to gravity and the distance between the earth and the sun?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

The earth rotates the sun every 1.0 years. Use Keplers laws to find the mean distance of the Comet as a multiple of the earth's orbit. Then multiple that number by the earth's orbit in kms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright i'll give it a shot
