How can we be sure that we really love someone?

It happens when you feel great affection towards someone, it doesn't matter sex, distance, age, etc. If you really love someone, you will stand up for them in any situation and take care of them.

Actually we can't really be sure always ....... but only "time" will tell !!!!
If the relationship withstands the test of time, u can be fairly sure that u luv that person truly & deeply !!! or in other words You can never be sure it's just a feeling does your heart bounce when you see or hear this person do you feel safe with this person does this person look in your eyes when your talking does this person make you feel special do you trust this person as a friend 1st and then do you think this person is your soulmate and does LOVE MEAN HE OR SHE IS YOUR WORLD.Can't live without this person.don't rush into it take your time 1st make sure you have achived all your goals and dreams then think of love.life is reality not a dream of only love.so be real good luck hope you find all the happyness in the world even my share of happyness i wish for you.

This is funny way to look at it:
1. If he/she can't, will you wipe their butt for them?
2. If his/her mother can't, will you wipe her butt for her?

If you can answer a definite "yes" to both questions, it's definitely love!

If your willing to sacrifice some parts of your dignity/honor for that person, it is love.

Love is a very complex topic. The thing about Love is that it is a paradoxical amalgamation of raw instinct and emotion. Many people these days categorize love as the feeling you have for someone when you like them... That is an inadequate definition. You know you love someone when you are completely devoted to them; when you constantly think about them; when their very presence assures you that you belong and that you are a perfect creature; when they are there for you when no one else is; when you feel more connected to them every time they tell you something "heavy"; when you feel what they feel; when you see what they see. If you and the other person are in love with each other, you will respect the other's wishes, regardless whether they are the same as your own; you will see their flaws as perfection in their character; you will understand that you are two different people, yet one person in mind, body, and soul. This may seem cliche, but if you are willing to die for a person because of your feelings towards them, you are in love :) When in love, it is important not to pay attention to the social norms or what is considered to be "right". People these days move through relationships quickly, without thinking and taking the time to wait and see. Like JazzyJessy said, take your time. The longer you wait, the more connected you will become if you are really in love. And finally, enjoy the moment. Not all relationships with true love end in flowers and joy. Take it as an experience and remember this:
