how to solve eigenvectors and eigenvalues??

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i can do eigenvalues , but not eigenvectors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how??? is there any techniques or what?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

well start with the definition the matrix T has eigenvalues lambda if \[\textbf{T}|\alpha \rangle=\lambda|\alpha\rangle \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

re arranging the equation \[\left( \textbf{T}-\lambda \textbf{I}\right) | \alpha \rangle =0\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

we can divide out the vector

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you give some examples how to do that. the easiest one so i could understand.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

now just take the determinate and set equal to zero \[|\left( \textbf{T}-\lambda \textbf{I}\right) | =0\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i cant really go on further without your matrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay okay i'll find one..

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i have one but it has complex values, are you comfortable with those/?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure...wait a sec.
