How do you find the asymptote of an exponential function?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

For the general exponential function: \[y = a*b^{x-h} + k\] the horizontal asymptote is y=k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thank you! If there is no k in the equation is it assumed to be 0 or 1?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

then k=0 in a standard exponential, asymptote is always y=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, thank you for the information.
