Neglect the effect of rotation of earth.Suppose the earth suddenly stops attracting objects placed near its surface.A person standing on the surface of earth will (a) fly up (b) slip along the surface (c) fly along tangent to the earth's surface (d) remain standing
fly tangent to surface(if earth suddenly stops to rotate) but if we ignore this rotational effect, objects will remain at the surface but they will not be bound by gravity.
why will they remain at surface, why wont they fly upwards? the forces acting on a body previously was normal force N and mg downwards. Now mg is removed. Only normal force remains upwards. Therefore normal force = ma where accelaration is upwards. PLease help me with an explaination why my theory is wrong
the normal force arises as counteracting force for gravity. if you push a wall, and the wall is not moving then you may assume that wall is pushing you as well. but if you stop pushing, the wall will certainly stop pushing you.
Yes, Goutham, you're right. ExperimentX, the earth's rotation won't stop if gravity is removed. Spin is an internal property, it is not a result of gravitation.
Yes, you're right about that. We don't push the ground, so we'll remain afloat. Gravity and normal force will both be zero. Goutham, we won't accelerate because we don't have any external force acting on us, we'll just remain afloat.
