How come in the Book Anne Frank the names of the 8 people in the Annex are Mr. Dussel,Mr. Van daan, Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, Otto frank, Edith Frank, Anne frank, and Margot frank.
yet in the play and movie the names are hermann van pels, auguste van pels, peter van pels, albert pheffer. why is this?
The reason for this would be because in the book Anne Frank later figured out that her diary could be used as a war document and she had then name -changed for her book publication. In the movies and plays though the names are kept as they were instead of changing them to Anne Frank's name-changes.
Does that make any sense?
no im sorry it doesn't
When Anne Frank readied her diary for eventual publication, she created pseudonyms for the people she wrote about in her diary. Although you are familiar with the pseudonyms of Albert Dussel (the real life Freidrich Pfeffer) and Petronella van Daan (the real life Auguste van Pels) because these pseudonyms appear in most published versions of the diary, do you know what pseudonym Anne chose for herself? Even though Anne had chosen pseudonyms for everyone hiding in the Annexe, when it came time to publish the diary after the war, Otto Frank decided to keep the pseudonyms for the other four people in the Annexe but to use the real names of his own family. This is why we know Anne Frank by her real name rather than as Anne Aulis (her original choice of a pseudonym) or as Anne Robin (the name Anne later chose for herself). In case you are curious, Anne chose the pseudonyms Betty Robin for Margot Frank, Frederik Robin for Otto Frank, and Nora Robin for Edith Frank.
Anne listed all of those people because they were the ones living in the annex with her. Mr. Van daan: Her dads friend Mrs. Van Daan: Mr. Van daan wife Peter Van Daan: Her boyfriend Otto frank: Her dad Edith Frank: Her mom Margot frank: Her sister Mr. Dussel: A dentist they let stay in the annex.
Anne originally wrote those names in her diary because she thought they were funny names and just in case her mom ever read her diary she wouldn't know what she was talking about...
oh ok thanks guys
