How did you identify whether the given flower is male or female?

it was female

You need to look to see if it has male and/or female sex organs. The male bits (collectively the androecium) are the anthers/stamens (they have pollen on them), and the female bits (gynoecium) are the carpels, inside of which the seeds will grow. Most flowers are actually hermaphroditic, but there are some that are only male or female.
