hypothesize what might occur as the sun nears the end of its life. what will the sun become? what will happen to the planets in our solar system? provide evidence to support your hypothesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sun will become a neutron star.and before it will stop emitting any more light it will absorb all planets in solar system..

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

whatever the sun becomes ( red giant, white dwarf or neutron star), i am damn sure that it is NOT going to affect motion of planets as planet's motion is governed by laws of gravity which are dependent on mass and since sun's mass is not going to change by any means, (of course radius of orbits is also not going to change) the gravitational pull will remain constant and so the motion of planets will remain unaffected... So, the sun is NOT going to absorb planets.... Gravity has got nothing to do with density as long as you are outside the body, so the change in sun's density (which will occur for sure) is not going to affect its gravitational pull..

ur argument is logical and admirable but surely u have heard of black holes..how come they have this huge gravity field when the star that they were before had finite and much weaker gravity??
