Suppose you use a velocity selector to obtain singly ionized (missing one electron) atoms of speed 8.50 km/s and want to bend them within a uniform magnetic field in a semicircle of diameter 25.0 cm for the 12C. The measured masses of these isotopes are 2.32×10^−26 kg (14N), 1.99×10^−26 kg (12C) and 2.49×10^−26 kg (15N). Find the separation of the 14N and 15N isotopes at the detector. Can I assume the same velocity for all the isotopes? Is the charge of a 12C=e since it has one missing electron? If mv^2/r=qVB then I can find B and use it to solve r for each isotope to find the speration.
