why a siphon cannot work in vacuum ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A siphon is an instrument used to transfer water from a higher level to a lower level, which is a general characteristic of fluids. I think this property of fluids works only under vacuum.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

A siphon works because the tube connecting the two volumes of fluid is under lower pressure then the surrounding air In a vacuum there is no external pressure|dw:1333770931942:dw|
