In order to make a scaled diagram, you must have a legend providing the relationship between measurement on paper and measurement in real life. For example, if you were making a scale drawing of a building (side view) that was rectangular and had dimensions of 10 feet high and 20 feet wide in real life, you may have a scale of 5 feet = 1 inch. In this case, your drawing on paper would have a height of 2 inches and a width of 4 inches.
