Does multiculturalism strengthen the United state or create a weakening balkanization of its communities ? why?
I really don't know what write about
Well multiculturalism brings in different cultures and the whole idea of collectivism along with it, which is good because of the Individualistic culture that they have in the US. This is all I could really think about and I only know this because my mom's a social worker and she did a whole bunch of communications courses. Also doesn't collectivism bring forth a more caring and togetherness in a society. Especially with all the divorce rates and stuff, everyone lives separately these days and only thinks about me, me, me when really we should be thinking more along the lines of we, we, we. I apologize if I'm not much help. I don t know much about this.
So I would say that it strengthens it.
that's very good shay88 you did a good job
but i think that multiculturalism creates a weakening
but i can't find ideas for my thesis statement
i got only one so far
Oh really? Well thanks. I just caught bits and pieces of what my mom did when she was studying and I helped type up her essays and stuff sometimes because she hand writes, so thats why I knew that. Umm... I'm not really sure how to help with that because we have opposing views right? Maybe because its weakening the American culture, like its getting lost in the mix up of everything?
yeah that is my theory of multiculturalism.
if you want to propose that multiculturalism is bad, do it carefully or risk sounding like Hitler... Maybe focus on the potential for multiculturalism to create divides if not properly understood/appreciated/etc....
Yeah I was thinking that too, you're really going to have to be careful because you might end up sounding like a Nazi like @saraellen said.
ok guys so what you suggest me to write
i don't have any ideas about it
Well I mean you should write what you believe the right answer is. Like what you truly believe it to be. If I wrote it, I would probably be all for multiculturalism and use the argument I had above. I'm just a high school student, so that's about the extent of my knowledge on that subject, so I'm sorry but I really dont know how else to help.
Thank you You did a good job and I really like your suggestions
Well no problem :)

With writing, it isn't always necessarily correct one way or the other. So aspects of shay88's argument and JoeJoe's argument could very well be permissible. In terms of finding reasons for your thesis statement, it is always good to go for multiple categories that can connect. Multiculturalism can strengthen because the US becomes exposed to new ideas, technologies, ways of doing things that are possibly better than the traditional ways employed in the US. It could provide diversity to the social composition of communities and create a more open-minded society that accepts others and thus becomes more sophisticated. On the other hand, the exposure to new ideas can cause the erosion of foundations that are already in place, that may or may not be better for the community as a whole. If multiple different cultures begin to evolve and slowly erode the culture that has been established, that culture could very well be eliminated and possibly altered beyond repair. In the end, it is truly up to you. You are the only one who can truly put your thoughts into words so put the pen to the paper and just let your thoughts flow :)
Multiculturalism may increase racism in the society that may lead to unrest, injustice, and violation of human rights, thus may create balkanization . No doubt, multiculturalism can form a stronger, diverse society provided that the people live with tolerance, learn to accept their differences and of course treat the other community members with equality and respect as only a peaceful society flourishes.
