Bartolome De Las Casas.. Can you help? I am doing an essay thing on him and well i don't know if I have my info right! So what I have is that he was against slavery and against treating blacks badly. And he tried to stop it and failed. Up to there I think its all true. But How did he affect how the Europeans treated the Native Americans? Did he annoy them so they purposely tried to 'get back' at him by hurting the natives? I have no idea please please help! Please help if you know the answer! And please correct me if I am wrong about any of this.
Why not type into Google Search his name and go to one of the dictionary history outlining what he did. I just did that and all you need to know is right there. wmw
Bartolome De Las Casas was originally a Spanish conquistador who came to the New World. Upon arriving, he was horrified by the way Spaniards were treating the Native Americans and became a priest. He wrote a book / diary entry to the Spanish monarchs requesting orders to stop the Spanish violence. Under the enconmienda system, Native Americans were brutally treated. He tried to stop the violence against the natives. His impact on Europeans gradually led to better treatment of Native Americans.
